Renter’s insurance, sometimes called tenant’s insurance, provides some of the benefits of homeowner’s insurance, but does not cover structure or dwelling. It protects against liability, personal property damage such as fire, theft and vandalism. It also can pay for out-of-pocket expenses while the dwelling becomes uninhabitable. Many landlords/property owners require a level of renter’s insurance before signing a lease.
